Who We Are

Established in 2017, UTS Judo Club is a dynamic and inclusive martial arts community based in Sydney, proudly affiliated with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). As a non-profit organization, we are committed to delivering high-quality judo instruction to people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you’re a beginner stepping onto the mat for the first time, a seasoned competitor, or someone looking for fitness and self-defense, UTS Judo offers something for everyone.
Our club is led by highly qualified coaches, including Olympians, national team coaches, and experienced competitors who have dedicated their lives to the art and sport of judo. Together, we foster a safe, respectful, and challenging environment where every member can grow.

Mission
Our mission is to promote the art and values of judo, enriching lives through physical fitness, mental discipline, and community connection. We aim to introduce judo to a wider audience, provide opportunities for personal growth, and develop athletes capable of competing at national and international levels, including the Olympic Games.
Vision
Our vision is to establish a world-class judo facility, a dedicated home for UTS Judo Club. This future dojo will be a hub for athlete development, community engagement, and elite training, providing an environment where beginners and champions train side by side. We strive to be recognized as one of Australia’s premier judo clubs, known for technical excellence, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

Acquire and develop our own large, state-of-the-art dojo, offering world-class facilities for training, events, and community activities.

Expand our junior development program, providing a structured long-term athlete development (LTAD) system to nurture young judokas.

Maintain a high-performance coaching team, continuously upgrading skills and knowledge to deliver the best training experiences.

Strengthen our community ties, offering opportunities for members to participate in social events, seminars, and competitions that foster camaraderie and connection.

Why UTS Judo?

The UTS Judo Coaching Team

One of our two head coaches, Semir represented Slovakia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and Australia at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, where he achieved 9th place. He again represented Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He is a 4th Dan blackbelt.
Our second head coach and joint founder of UTS Judo, Roman Gari is a 2nd Dan blackbelt. Roman started in judo as his father was a judo coach. He recalls the very first time that he walked into his Fathers dojo and that day changed his life.
Munguntuya is a blackbelt and has been one of Mongolia's higest ranked judoka, representing Mongolia for more than 16 years in international competitions. Munguntuya was National Youth Champion three years in a row. She was also formally before joining UTS Judo the coach of the Mongolian National Para Judo Team from 2018-2022.
Amber is a 2nd Dan blackbelt and our second coach. She has attained a B Health Science (Fitness) and brings her skills to us. She represented Australia at a World Championship, medalled at numerous Oceania championships.
Mark is a 3rd Dan blackbelt and has been New Zealand’s number one ranked judoka, representing New Zealand for more than 11 years in international competitions. A National and Oceania Continental Champion and 2014 Commonwealth Games Representative, Mark has trained with top athletes.
